God Bless the USA and American Values

After much practice, students at a New York City school were informed that they would not be allowed to sing “God Bless the U.S.A.” at a school performance. As far as can be determined, the school administration’s position was that, since there are so many different cultures represented at the school, some students would take offense at the lyrics:

God Bless The USA
by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone, I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can’t take that away.

Hey! And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas from sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A
Well, there’s pride in every American heart, and its time we stand and say

Hey! That I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.

‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.

‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the USA.

Apparently, the administration is not aware of the three (3) values that set the USA apart from every other nation. The three are on every United States coin. They are “E Pluribus Unum” (from many one), “In God We Trust,” and “Liberty.”

A major purpose of public schooling is to pass on the values, mores, and culture of the society. If public schools in the USA were to be held accountable on this topic, it appears that “every child would be left behind.”
